Chapter 1: Childhood Dreams and Aspirations

From an early age, I was filled with aspirations and dreams about my future. One of my earliest memories is being fascinated by the garbage collector. When I was about four or five, nothing thrilled me more than trash day. I would rush to the window to catch a glimpse of the workers riding on the back of the big truck. To me, that job seemed like the epitome of coolness—riding through the neighborhood with the wind blowing through my hair! I boldly declared to my mom that I wanted to be a garbage collector when I grew up, a topic she still finds amusing.

As I grew older, my ambitions shifted dramatically. I dreamt of becoming a bologna maker, a painter, a singer, a lawyer, a psychologist, a veterinarian, and many other professions throughout my school years. Yet, none of these aspirations stuck. While I enjoyed creative writing and English, I never thought of pursuing writing as a career.

Fast forward a decade: after becoming a parent, attending community college, and working more than fifteen different jobs, I still found myself lost, unsure of what I truly wanted to do. My struggles with self-esteem made me feel like I had to settle for less, but after experiencing so many different roles, I had a revelation—I despised settling. The thought of spending my life enriching someone else's wealth while neglecting my own passions was unbearable.

With the encouragement of my boyfriend, I discovered Medium, a platform that reignited my motivation. It felt like a breath of fresh air to engage in something I genuinely cared about. The opportunity to share my thoughts, learn about new subjects, and potentially assist others became an exhilarating prospect.

When I joined Medium, I found myself writing non-stop for days. While my fingers weren't literally moving while I slept, my desire to write about everything was insatiable, and it remains so.

It's been roughly four months since I embarked on this writing journey, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I love reading the works of others and discovering new writing techniques and styles. I feel fortunate to finally have a long-term job, one that I might pursue for a lifetime. I look forward to refining my skills and evolving as a writer with each piece I create.
