# Embracing Change: The Journey of Moving Abroad for Happiness

Written on

Chapter 1: The Decision to Leave

“Glad you moved out,” remarked a stranger.

“The country doesn’t need you,” another chimed in.

“Get hit by a bus,” a third individual sneered. “Enjoy the South American healthcare system.”

These individuals were complete strangers to me, with no shared acquaintances or experiences. They simply read about my relocation from the United States and directed their hostility toward me.

My desire to improve my life prompted my departure, as I found the U.S. lacking in affordable healthcare options and safety, where I constantly felt the need to know the nearest emergency exit in case of a violent incident.

Multiple factors contributed to my decision to seek a better life elsewhere. Perhaps your journey is also leading you away, even if you are just beginning to realize it.

You likely understand, as I do, that there will always be individuals who resent your pursuit of happiness.

Section 1.1: The Nature of Happiness

Happiness is a transient emotion; it arrives and departs. However, this is perfectly fine. A constant state of elation can become monotonous and detracts from the richness of life. It is during the challenging moments that the joyful experiences truly shine.

Yet, some negative feelings linger. Thoughts of financial strain often haunt us, gnawing at our minds persistently. Money challenges do not simply vanish; bills and the quest to afford daily living remain pressing concerns.

Financial difficulties contribute to numerous failed relationships, mental health issues, and abandoned dreams. I realized that with my $800 monthly student loan and soaring rent of $2,000 and beyond, these financial burdens would not be alleviated easily.

I often deceived myself, believing that a brighter reality awaited just around the corner. Perhaps selling a book, having a screenplay optioned, or achieving a billion blog reads would turn things around.

While such hopes may not have been outright lies, they were certainly optimistic fantasies. The potential for any of these scenarios to materialize remained uncertain. When I chose to relocate abroad, I didn’t abandon these dreams, but I grew weary of relying solely on hope and prayers.

Given the recurring issues in the U.S., the efficacy of thoughts and prayers can often feel ineffectual. Relying on external assistance without taking personal initiative is unlikely to yield results.

Now, after years of living abroad, I no longer carry the constant burden of financial anxiety or the fear of medical emergencies. As my joints creak, I recognize the inevitable need for replacements in the future.

This is why I encourage others to consider relocating from the United States; personal happiness may be found elsewhere. Seeking joy in your life is not only acceptable but commendable.

Chapter 2: The Reality of Leaving

The first video, Why Do So Many People Hate Californians?, explores the societal sentiments surrounding Californians and the reasons behind certain negative perceptions.

The second video, Why People Hate Living In Seattle, delves into the complexities of living in Seattle and the challenges faced by its residents.

As you contemplate your own journey, it’s essential to acknowledge that not everyone will support your decisions.

If you choose to leave or even entertain the idea, expect a few detractors. Hopefully, they won’t reach out on other social media platforms to voice their opinions (though if you’re curious about my adventures, feel free to find me on TikTok).

Even if they do express their disapproval, whether they are friends or family, that’s perfectly alright. If others are upset by your happiness, it signals you are on the right path. You are brave enough to leave your comfort zone and pursue a life that fulfills you.

Not everyone possesses the courage to do this, which may explain why some feel resentment (though I promised not to analyze).

Rest assured, while a few may disagree, the overwhelming majority of people genuinely wish for your happiness, even as strangers. Most of us are inherently compassionate, and despite differing opinions, we can usually unite on one fundamental truth: the pursuit of happiness is worthwhile.

If you’re considering relocating and seek inspiration or guidance on how to navigate the process, I authored a guide titled 7 Steps to Move Out of the U.S. tailored for individuals like you.
