Today, during an unusual stint on Medium via desktop (I do have a soft spot for the app), I observed something peculiar: only one tag was prominently displayed on my articles. While my stories still appeared in searches under various tags and on the tag-specific pages of my publication, the visible tag count was reduced.

I initially wondered if this was merely a quirk of viewing my own profile, so I took a detour to Tom Fenske’s page. Aside from being the editor of The Shortform, Tom regularly contributes to various publications. His profile reflected a similar pattern.

With my detective mindset activated, I was curious to explore whether this trend was exclusive to profile pages or if it extended to publications as well. Naturally, I visited one of my favorite publications, ILLUMINATION, and what did I find? The same scenario unfolded!
