Reward Yourself: A Necessary Treat for Your Hard Work

Chapter 1: The Importance of Self-Rewards

When was the last time you treated yourself? It’s a question that many of us might not ponder often enough.

Celebrating Your Achievements

For a significant portion of my life, I didn’t see the value in rewarding myself for my efforts or the milestones I reached. The concept of self-reward seemed foreign and unnecessary. I grew up believing that hard work and success were simply expected, requiring no celebration. I assumed this was the norm for everyone around me.

Every now and then, my mother would treat me to my favorite snacks or meals to celebrate my achievements, but that was the extent of it. However, I have come to realize that it is vital to acknowledge and reward yourself for persevering through tough times and for not succumbing to defeat. This revelation stems from a fundamental question: If you don’t celebrate yourself, who will?

When you’re surrounded by family, it’s wonderful to share celebrations with them. Typically, it’s family members who plan events to make your special moments memorable. But what if you're separated from your loved ones? Shouldn’t you still take the time to reward yourself for your hard work? It may seem frivolous, but depriving yourself of such recognition can be detrimental.

Self-rewards don’t need to be extravagant or frequent. A delightful dinner at a favorite restaurant, a trip to the cinema for a new release, or purchasing a ticket to watch a live game are all great ways to treat yourself. The options are endless, as you know what you enjoy.

However, it’s crucial to choose rewards wisely. Avoid indulging in temporary pleasures that may have negative consequences. The goal here is not to engage in unhealthy “treating.”

So, how will you choose to reward yourself?
