# A Journey Through My Life: Seasons of Storytelling
Written on
Chapter 1: Introduction to My Life
As a child, a woman, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother, I have always identified as a writer. Through each stage of my life, my stories have formed a tapestry that connects my experiences to others.
In the spirit of sharing, I invite you to consider the idea of viewing life not merely by years or roles, but as a cycle of four seasons. This perspective has allowed me to express my innermost feelings through writing since my youth. The act of writing opened up a path for self-exploration and expression.
While I have always regarded myself as a writer, I understand there is a distinction between merely writing and pursuing a writing career. A significant moment for me occurred in 1993, during the difficult time when my friend Pat was battling cancer. To ground myself, I began journaling about our thirteen-year friendship, which was now navigating uncharted waters. When Pat read my reflections, she urged me to publish them, believing our story could inspire others. Her encouragement propelled me to pursue publication with newfound faith.
Author's Note
In response to requests for that original essay, I’m sharing it here. Over time, what began as a childhood aspiration transformed into reality as I became an investigative journalist for a local newspaper. I often daydreamed about the life of Lois Lane, the iconic reporter who always uncovered the truth. Unlike the typical roles available to women in the fifties, I was carving my own path.
Whenever significant events unfolded in my life, writing became my outlet. I quickly realized that my words not only served my own healing but also resonated with others. This desire to make a positive impact led me to revisit these experiences, carefully choosing the right words to convey their significance.
The events of September 11, 2001, marked one such moment. “Hi, Ma. I spoke with Dom, and he’s okay,” my older son Joe began. “Have you turned on the TV? A plane has struck the World Trade Center.”
Conversely, a joyous occasion that I documented was the birth of my first grandson. This milestone brought back memories of welcoming my three children into the world and the arrival of his younger brother. “Becoming a grandma filled me with overwhelming joy. I wanted to impart everything I had learned, but little did I know how much I would learn from them in return!”
This anthology would be incomplete without sharing my experience of taking a solo cruise to the Panama Canal after my husband’s passing. In retrospect, this journey played a crucial role in my grieving process. “Everyone’s path through grief is distinct. My journey puzzled my family, but it appears they are starting to understand it now.”
Chapter 2: Life Lessons and Reflections
In this chapter, I delve deeper into the lessons learned from both joyful and challenging experiences, illustrating how they have shaped my perspective on life and storytelling.
