How I Found Success on Medium: Insights and Tips

Chapter 1: Defining Success on Medium
Success is a highly subjective term, and this holds true for the Medium platform as well.
Many users equate success with reaching a specific monthly income, while others find it in accumulating a large following. For some, the true measure lies in receiving positive feedback on their writing and feeling that they are producing their best work. All these perspectives are completely valid.
As for my own journey, I can relate to multiple definitions of success. I began my writing adventure on Medium in late January, and since then, I’ve accumulated over 1,300 followers, received an outpouring of supportive messages, and earned between $127 and $325 each month, with April being my most profitable month. This progress has made me feel quite successful—more than I initially anticipated. I may not rank among the top 1%, but I’m content with my achievements.
In light of this, I'd like to share three key factors that have contributed to my success on Medium, whether you are just starting out or looking to enhance your experience.
Chapter 2: The Key Factors to My Success
Section 2.1: Consistency
I must confess that I initially got a bit carried away and jumped from posting one story daily to two. This pace was unsustainable over time. While I’m not suggesting that anyone must post daily, maintaining a schedule of 3–4 times per week can significantly increase your visibility. The more content you share, the wider your audience will be.
Section 2.2: Engagement
You've likely heard the saying, "If you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours." This principle applies here as well. I realized that to gain readers, I should actively engage with others’ work, and the results have been fantastic! I’ve discovered new favorite authors and even formed friendships, all while increasing my own readership.
Section 2.3: Submitting to Publications
Not every piece I submitted has been accepted, which was initially difficult to accept. However, I quickly recognized that getting featured in Medium's publications is an excellent way to broaden my reach and attract more readers. I recommend starting with 3–5 publications, familiarizing yourself with their content, and then submitting your work. You won't regret it!
In conclusion, I hope my experiences on Medium prove helpful to you, regardless of your aspirations. Whether your goal is to boost your income, grow your follower count, or simply gain more visibility, these strategies could be the key to your success.
And as for the success we all strive for? I wish you the very best in achieving it!
