Facing My Inner Demons: A Journey Through Nightmares

Chapter 1: A Personal Nightmare
Throughout my life, I have grappled with a recurring fear: the thought of encountering my mother again. This isn't just about our relationship; it's a reminder of the journey I've undertaken since leaving Spain on January 11, 2023.
Typically, I enjoy restful nights, but whenever I receive a call or message from her, I find myself plagued by nightmares filled with painful memories and difficult experiences. While it may seem as though her actions were physically harmful, the true impact was psychological. This kind of trauma can be insidious and, although it may appear less severe on the surface, it poses a significant risk to one's mental health—sometimes leading to suicidal thoughts, as I have nearly experienced.
Consider this analogy: if I were to physically harm someone, they would feel the pain and likely respond in some way. However, if I were to manipulate someone psychologically, they might not even recognize the damage being done and could mistakenly believe I am helping them.
One must tread carefully when it comes to mental health; it can often be more crucial than physical well-being. The two are frequently intertwined. For example, losing a limb in an accident might lead to depression, just as depression from another source could result in self-harm. Ultimately, both physical and mental health issues are connected in complex ways.
The mind, however, is rather subjective. This doesn't imply that a patient's perspective is merely opinion-based; rather, it reflects the various diagnoses that exist. There are numerous similarities among different mental health conditions, including depression, which seems to be a catch-all term for many emotional struggles today. Sometimes, what appears to be depression may simply be a temporary reaction to social isolation or another situational factor.
Depression is classified as a mood disorder that generates a lasting sense of sadness and disinterest. It's crucial to understand that feeling sad after a poor exam doesn't equate to clinical depression. Self-diagnosis can be misleading; without a proper medical evaluation from a psychiatrist, we risk trivializing the condition.
